Worked example
Convert 25 degrees Celsius to degrees Fahrenheit
- Use °F = °C × 9/5 + 32
- Substitute 25 °C: 77 °F
25 °C = 77 °F
Good to know
Handy anchors: 0 °C = 32 °F (freezing), 20 °C = 68 °F (room temperature), 37 °C = 98.6 °F (typical body temperature), 100 °C = 212 °F (boiling at sea level), 180 °C = 356 °F (a moderate oven). A rough mental method is “double it and add 30”, which is close for everyday weather.
Note that −40 is the same in both scales.
