Simplifying square roots

Take out the largest square factor: √72 = √(36 × 2) = 6√2. The square root calculator does this for any whole number.

Perfect squares to remember

1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100, 121, 144, 169, 196, 225. Knowing these makes estimating other roots easy: √50 is just over 7, because 7² = 49.
