Degrees Fahrenheit to Kelvins Converter
Convert to Celsius first — subtract 32 and multiply by 5/9 — then add 273.15.
Formula
K = (°F − 32) × 5/9 + 273.15
Worked example
Convert 70 degrees Fahrenheit to kelvins
- Use K = (°F − 32) × 5/9 + 273.15
- Substitute 70 °F: 294.261 K
70 °F = 294.261 K
Good to know
Absolute zero is −459.67 °F. Engineers in the US sometimes use the Rankine scale, which has Fahrenheit-sized degrees starting at absolute zero (°R = °F + 459.67); kelvin is the SI equivalent, with Celsius-sized degrees.

About these units
- Degree Fahrenheit (°F)
- Water freezes at 32 °F and boils at about 212 °F. A change of 1 °F is 5/9 of a change of 1 °C.
- Kelvin (K)
- The SI unit of temperature. 0 K is absolute zero; 0 °C is exactly 273.15 K. Kelvin is written without a degree sign.
